Dylan grew up in Lynchburg, Virginia, and during his teens started getting involved in acting through regional theatre productions. He attended his education at Holy Cross Regional Catholic School, and later went to Darlington School before matriculating from Georgetown Preparatory School in 1976. After matriculating, he attended the College of William and Mary, later moving to the Southern Methodist University, and graduating in 1980. Afterwards, he pursued a Masters in Fine Arts degree from the Yale School of Drama.

In 1986, Baker started to move forward with his acting career, appearing in numerous productions on Broadway, including “God of Carnage”, Mauritius”, and “Not About Heroes” which he won an Obie Award. More opportunities opened up for him, giving him the opportunity to increase his net worth. The following year, he made his film debut in “Planes, Trains and Automobiles”, and was also cast in his first recurring television role in the hit show “Murder One”. Since then he’s made guest appearances in “Law & Order”, “The West Wing”, and “Without a Trace”.

In 1998, Dylan received a lot of acclaim for his performance in “Happiness”, in which he played a tormented pedophile. Later on, he would be cast in the second and third films of the “Spider-Man” series, playing Dr. Curt Connors. Two years later, he was cast in “Thirteen Days” before roles in “Requiem for a Dream” and “Road to Perdition”. In 2007, he was a part of the series “Drive”, however it was short-lived, but he then made a guest appearance in “Monk” and also had a role in the series “Kings”, all adding steadily to his net worth.

In 2010, Baker then made a guest appearance in “House” before becoming a part of the season four finale of “Burn Notice”, and was then part of the fourth season of “Damages”. In 2012 he made guest appearances in “White Collar” and “Smash”, and also had a guest role in “The Good Wife” which led him to be nominated three times for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series. One of his latest projects is the Broadway show “The Audience” in which he acts alongside Helen Mirren.

Aside from film, television, and stage work, Dylan is also known to narrate a wide range of audiobooks, including “Argo”, “The Grapes of Wrath”, and “The Corrections” for which he won an Audie Award.

For his personal life, it is known that Baker married actress Becky Gelke in 1990 and they have a daughter. In 2015, Baker tried to save the life of actress Vivien Eng who was caught in a fire in her apartment, however, she later succumbed to her injuries while in the hospital.
