Cable Has Trio of Offensive Talents on Hand

The Raiders have used the past three drafts to stockpile key offensive players at the skill positions. Now, Coach Tom Cable, who is beginning his first full season on the job, has to hope those picks take more complete steps forward in their development.

Quarterback JaMarcus Russell enters his second year as the team's starter having done little to justify the hype showered upon him as the first overall pick in the 2007 draft. He threw for 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions last year and now has veteran quarterback Jeff Garcia looming as the team's backup option in case Russell falters.

Running back Darren McFadden, the fourth overall pick in the 2008 draft, also is looking for a breakout season after a disappointing rookie campaign in which he rushed for just 499 yards and four touchdowns. Former Maryland wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey, the team's 2009 first-round pick (seventh overall) will attempt to provide Russell another option.
